Recent Events

As you are aware, our family has recently been led down a path that we have neither chosen nor expected.

We would like to outline the events of the past few months to avoid the misinformation that can be inherent in these situations. Most of you know that Tony had his hip replaced in December of 2010. Complications from the surgery resulted in a broken femur which necessitated an additional surgery two weeks after the first. Through physical therapy and much care from Patty, he seemed to be recovering nicely. Within a few weeks, we started noticing some subtle changes in Tony such as balance problems (including several falls), increased forgetfulness, and speech differences. The combination of these symptoms, and more, quickly became concerning and the falls forced the doctors to take action.

On Friday, March 11th, Tony checked into the hospital to undergo a battery of tests to determine exactly what might be causing these symptoms. MRI scans indicated the presence of a mass in several areas of his brain. A biopsy was performed on Monday, March 14th, however, there is no conclusive diagnosis yet. The neurologist expects test results to return over the coming weeks. We will, of course, keep you updated through this blog.

Tony is home now and he and Patty are both doing amazingly well. We have been enjoying the time together as a family. Michelle flew in, along with Patty's sister and brother-in-law. While we have certainly shared some anxious tears, we have also laughed and laughed...the best medicine for Tony, as you surely know!
We most definitely appreciate your prayers right now. While this new path is not one we would have chosen, we have faith that it has been meticulously laid out by God and pray fervently that it leads to healing. We choose to trust in Him and march onward as a family.
